This keynote lecture by Professor Mahnaz Yousefzadeh was delivered in the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification.

About the Speaker

Mahnaz Yousefzadeh is Professor of Global Liberal Studies at New York University, specializing in modern Italy, early modern Florence, and Europe’s relations with the Islamic world. She is the author of City and Nation in Italian Unification (2011) and Florence’s Embassy to the Sultan of Egypt (2019).

Event Context

Delivered as part of the commemorations for the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, this keynote was sponsored by the City of Florence and held in the Salone dei Cinquecento (Hall of the Five Hundred), a historic setting for civic and cultural life in Florence.
